Solar observation, Nikon D5000 + Celestron C8

WATCH FROM .46 TO .56 SEC, SUNSPOTS ARE EVIDENT. I noted that there was some sunspot activity occurring on the sun and decided to attempt to record it. This is the first of three videos I made. Taken Saturday 7/4/10 at about 2:00 pm in my backyard Levittown, NY. Equipment used is a Celestron C8 8-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope fitted with a solar filter on the front. I used a Nikon D5000 body attached directly to the visual back with an adapter. I set the camera body to M mode and focused using the telescope focusing mechanism. The movement is the rotation of the earth. As the earth turns, two sunspots can be seen on the lower left quadrant of the sun.

Nikon D5000 digital SLR camera plus body was 600$ refurbished on Amazon.com. 200mm Nikkor lens - to lock your AUTO EXPOSURE go into the menu like so; CUSTOM SETTING MENU / b Exposure / "f*2 Assign AE-L/AF-L button" / AE lock [Hold] {then select OK} now when you press the AE-L/AF-L button durring recording, it will stay locked (without you having to hold it down!) exposure does not jump up and down, but sadly it twitches NIKON PLEASE FIX THE EXPOSURE TWITCH, its not even really locked !!! Thanks NIKON if u guys fix this shitty issue (thanks for the exposure lock) d5000 shoots on SD memory cards - the Nikon D300s shoots on either SD or Compact Flash, or both simultaneously! D300s also allows for audio input via external microphone! D5000 only records with built in mono mic

Nikon D5000 reconditioned unboxing

Got my new Nikon D5000 today, and I'm already impressed in the picture and video quality. I'll probably be using this camera for pictures and shooting actual films and important stuff, and using my point-and-shoot Sony Cybershot for regular everyday filming. Main features: 12.3 megapixels, 720p HD footage @30fps, flip screen, pretty much like a D60 but with the ability to record high-definition video, a live view LCD screen that flips out from the camera body (for high and low angle shots), and an 11-point autofocus system. more specs on Nikon website

Solar observing, Nikon D5000 + 26mm eyepeice + C8 Telescope

This is the second of three videos I took today to observe sunspot activity. Taken at about 2:30pm Saturday 7/24/10 from my backyard in Levittown, NY. I utilized a Telextender to mount a 26mm eyepiece between my Nikon D5000 camera body and my Celestron C8 8-inch Scmidtt-Cassegrain telescope. As I am using an eyepiece in this setup, the image is reversed from that seen in the first video, which had the camera connected directly to the visual back of the telescope.

BDD (Body Dysmorphic Disorder)

This short film was part of my Intro to Digital Media assignment. I was required to pick a social issue and produce a digital story based on it. As the title suggests, my topic is about Body Dysmorphic Disorder. The story revolves around Joyce and Lily; two inseparable best friends who were classmates during their pre-U studies. Their friendship was later put on a test when Lily had to fly to Australia to pursue her degree while Joyce remained in Malaysia. 1 year later Lily is back to Malaysia for a long holiday. Feeling all excited to see her best friend after such long absence, Lily was rather surprised to find Joyce to be....different. She is no longer the same person whom Lily knew before. Lily struggles dealing with the 'new' Joyce, can their friendship be saved? Shot and edited using Nikon D5000 and Final Cut Pro 7.
