We've reviewed Canon's G12, Nikon's P7000, and Panasonic's LX5, which left us ultimately baffled when it came to the top model. For us, it was between the LX5 and the G12, until the Olympus XZ-1 came along with its bright as ever f/1.8 lens. There's something sinfully delightful about an ultra open ZUIKO at our disposal. The Olympus XZ-1 has the brightest aperture in its class, which enabled us to shoot at lower ISO settings in a variety of environments. Even neighboring compacts like the lowlight-slaying f/2.0 Canon PowerShot S95 felt the heat from the Olympus XZ-1. The best part about the Olympus XZ-1 was the fact that its image quality backed its hardware, and the camera proved itself a well-equipped tool that excelled when it came to manual controls. Consider the Olympus XZ-1 the Mini Me of the PEN family.

Jul 25, 2011- Best Olympus XZ1 video settings tutorial here www.youtube.com Feb 2011- Tested the video of the Olympus Xz1 in a PT-050 housing. Had no time to fix exposure/ white balance settings or try u/w scene modes (vid quite whitewashed), might miss the huge Octopus. Not so good in low light and wide angle but macro/ depth of field superb. The underwater photos of the xz1 is - perfect. Acquired for usd865 both cam+pt-050 housing brought by a friend from Malaysia

On a recent trip to San Francisco, I had to film these guys. I used the Olympus xz-1, iso 320 white balance cloudy shutter speed 1/80th f5.6 hand held. I really enjoy using this camera, however, it lost focus for me when I was filming in a night club. I filmed the group Bomba Estereo and you'll see what I mean. I did not use a light, just the ambient from the stage. The audio was from the camera. Comments are welcome. Thanks

some time in early 2010, four white tip sharks (Carcharhinus longimanus) were discovered to have settled at Ligpo's lobster cave 20-25 mtrs below (pending tides). A defected Olympus Xz-1 makes dark photos...
I bought two cameras in the movie and received it on the 28 Dec. 2011 from Gimmedigi.com on-line shop (located in Hong Kong). I did that because of the very attractive price. From the first days one of the two cameras took dark, useless photos. I eventually realized it was a defect of the camera. Unfortunately, email exchange with Gimmedigi's support to benefit from the international warranty have been unsuccessful. Worse, they've been overly frustrating! "The photos are fine"; "ISO must be set", "light was not enough", "please provide a photo of a white A4 paper", "P mode is not auto mode". After 20 days of patient attempts, I decided to cut it all by filming myself during fully iAuto shooting in the sunshine (the above movie). I said Ok, that's really incontrovertible! Reply from Gimmedigi's support: "please kindly notice as the photo took at a very sunshine area. And if the photo is focus on very strong light and the photo will become very dark" This is not support. These are dismissive, elusive, malign and silly attempts not to provide the due warranty on a defected product. I got frustrated. So, sorry for being boring but I hope others who intend to buy from shops like Gimmedigi will be more aware than me on the risks associated with that.

I then went for compact digital point and shoot cameras for many years and have taken thousands of digital photographs because the camera was usually with me when I was anywhere interesting. For me the key is being able to keep a camera on a belt loop so it is handy when the right opertunity arrives. In the end the soft images of the point and shoot cameras where really annoying me so I went in search of something better. The xz-1 for me is the perfect balance of sharo image, sensible zoom (landscape through to portrait shots) and compact size. I have the Lowepro Dublin 30 bag which is ideal as the smallest possible belt pouch that fits the xz-1. The photographs are sharp and I have had loads of fun with the manual controls and the art filters (grainy monochrome and dramatic are giving great results). I have the in camera sharpness turned up one notch and I just shoot JPEG. LEft in Auto mode the camera produces saturated colours and good exposure consistently. The manual controls take a little time to learn and I had to learn to go into the menu and put the photo mode back to default because it does not forget your settings when you power down. I did look at the Canon S95 and I prefer the size and the video quality of the Canon but the stills quality of <b>...</b>
