You can check out more about the, frankly, kinda weird RICOH GXR here; www.ricoh.com The Ricoh GXR is a compact digital camera but unlike conventional cameras which either have a fixed lens and sensor or interchangeable lens and a fixed sensor, the GXR takes interchangeable units, each housing a lens, sensor and image processing engine. This allows each unit to have these features optimised to one another and a specific task, where as with conventional interchangeable lens cameras each different lens must use the same sensor and engine. The sealed units also prevent dust from reaching the sensor which can be a problem with other cameras where the sensor is exposed whilst a lens is being changed. A significant disadvantage of this system is the extra cost involved in having to buy a whole new sensor with every new lens. I have tested filming movie using Ricoh GXR Mount A12 which you can mount Leica M mount lenses. Even though it was enjoyable to use high quality lense and finishing was also excellent, one thing very unfortunate was the camera's incapability to film good quality movies.In details, exposure or colour adjustment is not available. Add to this the macro function and you have a very capable and high quality camera.I was going to get the Leica X1 but given the price/picture quality ratio especially given higher ISO noise verses the Ricoh A12 lens kit. Also, the build quality is exceptional which was another reason I wanted the Leica. Don't buy a name like so many end up doing. I'm glad I didn't.The one factor that keeps this from getting higher marks from various reviews is the slow AF like I said. So I would say for now it's not for action shots but is perfect for those like composing photos or portraiture type photos. There are two firmware updates that address some issues and have enhanced other functions and I'm very pleased with Ricoh's efforts. They still need to get their computer interface up to date for the software that comes with this kit. I use Snow Leapord so the 64 bit is currently being developed and should be out soon. I wanted to shoot video and as someone who's never owned a digicam it's something I can now do at 720p. True the files are large but I can import them into video editing software and compress it down to H.264.
