Having used the camcorder for a few videos, i thought it was time to make a second review, but also to show what else i use for making my videos. Apart from the camcorder, i use an Olympus Voice recorder, home made lavalier mic, and a Next Base DVD player as a blocking monitor. For editing i use Sony Vegas, this enables me to synchronise sound and vision.

Canon Legria FS37 Review (first look)
Having bought this camcorder and been out on a drive around the Welsh valleys, i decided to give a basic review, this is only a first look, not in depth. A couple of points that could have been improved, but in all a nice little camcorder. I bought this because i have camera booms, and wanted something light. Shooting the Welsh Valleys Pt1
After buying a couple of Canon Legria FS37 Camcorders, i decided to give them a test run by driving over the mountains near my hometown in Wales. I apologise for not cleaning the windscreen prior to recording, but i hope you get an idea of quality. Camera 1 was mounted on a flat based camera mount just standing on a front shelf on the passenger side, Camera 2 was handheld.

Here's an interesting idea: Take 1 camcorder, 1 Digital Voice Recorder, and 2 Granddaughters. Give the voice recorder to the girls when they go on a funfair ride, When you edit the video, add the recorder audio and mute the camcorder audio, if you synchronise properly the effect is that you only get the girls and not all the background sounds from around the camera, you also get some good screams. Method: Camera - Canon Legria FS37 Voice recorder - Olympus VN-6800PC with lavallier mic Editing Software - Sony Vegas It is important to start recording on camcorder and recorder before they get on the ride, and use a good handclap so that both mics pick it up, keep the camcorder running even if there is nothing to video while waiting for the ride to start. Record the video as normal. When you get back to base load the video and audio into a video editor. Remember to synchronise the handclap on the editor, then you can mute the camcorder audio. Alternatives: Any decent camcorder will do, there are cheaper voice recorders or you can use the voice recorder function on some mobile phones. Windows movie maker may work, but it's not easy. Have fun with this.

Canon FS 100 review and demo
For those of you looking into buying a "budget priced" video camera, here is an in depth review of the Canon FS-100 standard definition solid-state memory video camera. The camera shoots at 9mbps at high quality, 720x480 (3:2) widescreen which canon calls "16:9", but it really isn't. It features an anamorphic lens (so be aware of that when working with the video), and a 37x optical zoom. The color reproduction is pretty decent so long as lighting conditions are ideal (best outside). Great camera for the casual user who is not concerned about image quality, but others looking for a cheap solution to shoot independent films or commercial video should definitely try before they buy (or just look elsewhere and expect to pay more).
