STS-75 Tether Optical Phenomena (TOP) Camera Footage #2
Genuine 'TOP' camera footage from STS-75. This footage bears little resemblance to that of Columbia's first TSS-1R 'close pass' over the West Coast of Northern Africa, several days after the tether break. The 'TOP' camera was present on only two Shuttle missions (STS-46 and STS-75), yet the Tether footage which generates so much interest is characteristic of B&W camera footage from dozens of missions. The unmistakably analog appearance, thermal noise (dark current), and blooming present on countless hours of SIT Vidicon camera footage, contrasts starkly with genuine 'TOP' camera footage, which although subjective, is very hard to deny. Notice also the complete freedom of movement at the hands of the camera operator in the aft flight deck. In contrast, the controversial Tether footage shows camera movement consistent with a mechanically decoupled (see oscillations following adjustment) servo-driven pan/tilt mounting. Only two degrees of freedom are apparent (pan and tilt), with pan tending towards roll at extreme tilt angles, due to Shuttle attitude and the higher TSS-1R altitude. Question to David Sereda: If the controversial Tether footage was really filmed using the 'TOP' camera, then where is the data overlay? You know, the data overlay that indicates Mission Elapsed Time, frame information, Manual/Auto setting, filter setting, exposure setting, and the characters *TOP* in the bottom left corner. If it was there in the first place, it would surely have been retained as <b>...</b>
