Drawings on the Geometries, Traditions, and Memories

This video was a project that I did for one of my classes at Simon Fraser University with the topic of "Creative Forces in Islamic Art" taught by Professor Laura Marks. I've been living in Canada for more than eight years and have been enjoying my life here, but I am much more delighted after attending professor Marks' class and learning how to look at my cultural heritage with new eyes. In her class, I learned how I can look at a piece of art that doesn't fit into dominant art forms of western culture and still appreciate the beauty and the meaning that is hidden behind of the layers of geometry, patterns, and colors. In Pari Azarm Motamedi's works, I found something powerful that easily connects me to my origin and gives a fresh life to my memories of peaceful moments that I experienced in my childhood. Through professor Marks' class and Pari Azarm Motamedi's works, I find a reason to be proud of the place I come from.

Ice Fights at the Hunter Ice Festival

This year at the Hunter Ice Festival in Niles, Michigan I came across Buddy Rasmussen and Reverend Butter -- two master ice carvers from Texas who have taken ice carving to a new level with Buddy's, "Ice Fights" -- an adrenalin-pumping competition where chain saws are wielded at blocks of ice with lightening fast accuracy. The crowd of four-hundred onlookers cheered on Buddy and Reverend Butter and their two competitors, Andrew Thistlethwaite, executive chef/co-owner of the Riverfront Cafe in Niles, Michigan and Danny Bloss II, is a cook at the University of Notre Dame. Most of the footage was shot on a Canon 7D with an EF 35MM F/1.4L USM and a few shots with a EF 135MM f/2.0 L USM. Special thanks to Scottie Infalt for assisting as a 2nd shooter. The music for the trailer was recorded by Doug Clark Creative with the help of Taylor Clark.

Canon EF 135mm f/2.0 L USM | Lens Review

A test of a Canon EF 135 mm f/2 L USM lens on a Canon 550D (T2i). These clips are unedited and straight out of the camera using stock settings and the standard color profile. My friend let me borrow this lens for an afternoon and I must say, I'm VERY impressed. Sorry about the shaky movements while focusing, my tripod is terrible. The first thing I noticed was the extremely thin DOF at f/2. As you get closer to MFD, the background simply melts away; something that's quite desirable among filmmakers. The other thing that struck me was how sharp this lens was at f/2. I didn't notice any softness wide open. I also didn't notice and CA. Autofocus on this lens is quick as well. Focusing manually is extremely easy as the focusing ring is large and moves smoothly. It's tough to find a lens this fast and sharp. At a very reasonable price of around $800 used ($960 new), this is a must-buy. Thanks for watching, please let me know how I can improve and what lenses you'd like to see next.
