Unboxing the new Canon 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6L Lens. Only a collection of stills (stopmotion) nothing too fancy, no review. first impression: nice brick, typical/fast USM focusing speed. The distance window is placed a bit awkward, just under the flash, to read it, you have to hold the cam like you would look into the front of the lens... really strange position, dunno what the canon engineers thought about... if anything at all. only shot very few sample images today and am not daring to judge IQ yet. see USM test: www.youtube.com

Driving through the forest at Martinselkonen in Finland, coming back from the bear hide. The previous evening it has snowed, making the forest look all pretty again. Taken during my travels in Finland in 2010 with the Canon 5D Mk2 body and Canon EF 28-300 f/3.5-5.6L IS USM lens. The Finland wildlife stock photography portfolio can be seen at www.fvemedia.com. It includes rarely seen images of the Eurasian Brown Bear during heavy snow.
www.learningdslrvideo.com Some of the key points: * You can't zoom in and out with this lens while shooting video because of the aperture stops that you pass through * The IS works amazingly well, almost as good as my camcorder. * It is much heavier than my 50mm prime. * I think I need an ND filter sooner outside than I do with the 50mm prime. * It makes shooting video more complex, but shooting pictures is pretty fun. * Is it a good travel lens if it is some much heavier than the 50mm prime?

www.learningdslrvideo.com I did a review of this lens a long time ago only after using it for one weekend, now that I have had this lens for over a year I thought I would talk more about how I use this lens. All the footage you just saw was from my family vacation to San Diego was taken with the Canon 28-135mm zoom lens and more importantly it was all shot handheld, just the bare camera and lens no other equipment besides a camera strap. This lens really shines in outdoor use when I and running and gunning, a zoom lens is a must for me, there is no way I can follow my kids while changing out multiple prime lenses, that is just not going to happen. I like to travel light with just one lens in situations like Sea World. My favorite thing about this lens is the IS Image Stabilization. I am kind of cheating here because I am using slow motion which makes it look even smoother but it makes me look like a pro even though I am not using any other extra gear. It really doesn't work as well inside, so I try not to use it too much indoors because the lens is not very fast at all compared to a prime. Also over the past year I have compared it to many other lenses I have reviewed (mostly primes) and I can tell you it has always been the least sharpest lens. I don't use it for interviews or low light situations, but it is my go to run and gun outdoor lens. But for the price (FIND PRICES) it is a great lens to own. www.bhphotovideo.com So if you are looking for a good travel zoom lens ...

Testing out the new 1dx. No color correction just some crop to make it nice. EF 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6 L IS USM,Canon standard picture style and white ballance 6000k.(a bit to hot for my taste) This video does not show the cameras true potential it was just a test with some diffrent scenes and a good walk with my kids on a sunny day. I have been testing it with the tecknicolor picture style and i must say it is amaizing!!! The dynamic range on it is so much better than all the eos cameras i have tested (550d 5d mkll 7d 60d 1d mk lV) Watching the raw files on a good monitor is just a treat.
