Just got my new Canon 100-400mm Lens in the post this morning, so i thought i would record the unboxing to show you guys what the lens looks like! Initial thoughts are that it is very large! My previous lens was the Canon 70-200mm f/4 and this lens is huge compared to that, it also weighs quite a lot. However build quality is good and it feels like a quality lens. The camera in the video is a 40d, filmed on a 7d.. didnt bother with the settings just whacked it on record and compressed it for faster upload but it gets the job done! Enjoy

slr-lens.us The EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS USM is part of Canon's prestigious L series offering performance excellence with a versatile zoom range and superb image quality in a robust and compact design. With a focal length range of 70-300mm, the EF 70-300mm f4-5.6L IS USM is a compact and versatile telephoto zoom lens delivering exceptional image quality. Ideal for wildlife and sports photographers, as well as photo journalism and portraiture. The L-series is Canon's flagship professional lens range, representing the best in precision-designed EF optics. A 4-stop optical Image Stabilizer -- specially designed for the lens' specific focal length range -- works to counteract image blur, which can occur during handheld shooting, or at slow shutter speeds. Chromatic aberration is virtually eliminated by the inclusion of two UD lenses, ensuring optimum image quality and sharpness. A ring USM (Ultrasonic motor) uses ultrasonic frequency vibrations to drive extremely rapid auto focus with near-silent operation. For more review please visit slr-lens.us

www.robnunnphoto.com I have to admit I was a little sceptical about using this lens at first - I've never been that successful with long telephoto zooms.
froknowsphoto.com Click here to see the full res sample images Recently Canon USA sent me a T2i to play with along with the NEW Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS USM. As you will be able to tell from the video my first gut reaction is "WHAT" the price is $1599.99!!!! That is a lot of money for a F4-5.6 zoom lens. Keep in mind that the Canon 70-200 2.8 IS is $1899.99 USA. Lets put price aside and talk about the lens and the type of images it creates. The lens is flat out amazing in terms of build quality, focus speed, sharpness, color and pretty much anything it does. It will have one draw back and that would be shooting in low light situations as well as indoors. There is only so much you can raise your ISO to compensate for the lack of the lens being a 2.8. After using this lens for a few hours while photographing some soccer I came to really enjoy having such a long reach. The 300mm becomes a 480mm on the Canon T2i because of the 1.6x crop factor. To be able to fill the frame from across the filed is just incredible. It is even more incredible that the focus was fast, smooth and tack sharp. The lens did miss a few times but that is going to happen with any lens you use. The zoom ring is smooth and responsive though on occasions my palm would tweak the focus ring by accident. What makes me end up giving this lens a good review was seeing the results in the computer. When I notice that the EXIF info showed me 266mm zoom and the player filed the frame with such clarity and ...

Incorporating Canon's Optical Image Stabilizer technology, this Canon 55-250mm telephoto zoom lens captures long distance, low-light shots far better than many comparable lenses, helping you photograph the far-off action of athletes or zoom in for an intimate portrait with a blurred background. The high-zoom-ratio lens is equivalent to a focal length of 88-400mm in the 35mm format (when used on Canon EOS cameras compatible with EF-S lenses). More significantly, the image stabilizer effect creates an equivalent shutter speed of roughly four stops faster than the same size lens without an image stabilizer. In other words, if the slowest shutter speed you can hold a 250mm lens steadily is normally 1/250th of a second, this Canon lens will let you hand-hold shutter speeds as slow as 1/15th of a second. The lens also boasts a UD-glass lens element to correct chromatic aberration to create excellent image quality throughout the zoom range. Delivering an excellent performance at an affordable price for all photographers, the 55-250mm lens carries a one-year warranty. Selling By : canonlensess.co.cc
A bit of spare time to muck around today so I thought I'd hook my 5D MkII (with a 16-35) to my monopod with a magic arm to give you an idea of the field of view difference between a 16mm lens on a full frame camera compared to a 400mm lens on a 1.3x crop DSLR (equivalent to 520mm on a full frame camera). It's not that exciting but hopefully it's better than a poke in the eye! :-) Video: Cameron Laird (blog.cameronlaird.com)
