It is of my opinion that the best Minolta SR mount 50mm primes were the MD Rokkor-X 50/1.2 and 50/1.4. By this time in Minolta's manual SLR lens development they had figured out the best coatings, saved some weight and size, and engineered their best aperture diaphragm (hence MD for Minimum Diaphragm). This lens is Minolta's second gen. MD lens. The last and 3rd generation were perhaps just a good optically, but they builds were of more plastic.

Sony 18-250mm, and 50mm F1.4 - AF speeds
Short video showing the AF speed of the Sony 18-250mm lens and 50mm F1.4. Both using the motor built into the camera. The 18-250 was slow for indoors and not bright enough so I just got the 50mm F1.4 and was amazed by how fast it was, I made this video! The 18-250 goes slower on the way back when zoomed above 70mm because not enough light for the AF system to work well. This demo is with an A200. I don't know how the video quality went so bad when put onto youtube.

Canon FD 50mm f/1.4 for Sony NEX
wow this didnt turn out the way i wanted it to AT ALL. just a quick look at the other lens i use with my Sony NEX-3. you need an FD-NEX adapter in order to stop down or stop up the aperture. you can get the adapter on eBay for around 20 bucks.
