Delkin Devices Fat Gecko Bike Camera Mount Review
Do not buy this product. Mine will be going back very soon. This video is of the first ride with a new Fat Gecko. The product is stated to be able to handle mountain bikes, too, but if it cannot survive a very short and modestly-bumpy ride to campus, then it most assuredly cannot survive a trail ride. The product description also states it being able to take cameras up to 1 lb. Mine is 5.4 oz with battery and memory card. So, by every measure: new product, road not mountain, and weight, the Fat Gecko had everything in its favor of working, yet it refused. I eventually had to resort to holding the camera on with one hand to keep it from hitting the bike frame. That's a safety hazard. It also doesn't let you know how many times it would have fallen off had my hand not been there (several more; you can hear me click it back in each time). For added fun, note the road noise transmitted through to the camera. That certainly wasn't audible to me while riding, and my camera's internals probably don't appreciate it very much. The only reason the camera didn't hit the ground? I tethered the camera to the bicycle. Lastly, I'm certain it was mounted correctly. I spent time setting it up according to the directions, and lots of time after this ride checking the mount. Plainly put, it is poorly designed.
