This movie is about the most beautiful castle in germany. It´s the Neuschwanstein Castle, which was built 1869 on behalf of Ludwig II, king of Bavaria as a retreat to Richard Wagner. King Ludwig just lived there for two months (in one of the towers) and died before the palace has been finished. This is my first movie, where also my girlfriend was shooting several shots with my 7D. It took three days to gather all those nice places in the south of germany, close to Austria. We walked I dunno how many miles with all the equipment on this very sunny days, but it was a great pleasure to see this nice place again after 20 years. Newly redesigned, the 190XPROB makes the famous Manfrotto-patented horizontal centre column feature even easier to use. Now, by extending the column to its highest vertical position, it can be swung round to horizontal without removing the head or disassembling the column itself, so switching between framing and positioning setups is more convenient than ever. The ergonomics of the leg angle release mechanism and the quick action leg locks themselves have also been greatly improved.
Balancing and leveling the Steadicam "Merlin" can be a very time consuming task. If you balance it bottom heavy, you just need a few seconds to level the thingy, but you´ll also get fed up with the permanently tumbling. Balancing it as perfect as possible needs a lot of patience and therefore either strong arms or some little helpers. I had a great idea to connect my merlin to a Seagull shouldermount, which is super easy and effective as hell:) Hope you like my tiny tutorial and maybe it´s also helpful for you :) Equipment used: Canon EOS 7D, Tokina AF 11-16mm f/2.8 AT-X Pro DX, Kenko Polarizer, Steadicam "Merlin", Seagull Shoulderrig, Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ38, B+W MRC Polarizer, slim, Canon EF 50mm/ f/1,4, USM B+W MRC Polarizer, slim, Manfrotto MA 055 CXPRO3 tripod, Manfrotto 701 HDV videohead, Manfrotto 808 RC4 3way-head, Zoom H2N external Audiorecorder © 2010 The IE·DNlab Project
This is the second part of my "Natural Wonders" sequel and I´m pretty proud of it :) We spent 1 1/2 days in the Yosemite, we had wonderful weather and much more amazing views, but unfortunately unbelievable crowds of people. I did so many shots with my 7D mounted on top of my car, but non of those shots, I used for this small movie. To find places where weren´t people, was really hard but I tried to make the best out of it (thanks also to Adobes "content aware system" :) I hope, you like the 2nd part too, feel free to comment...enjoy! Another one of my miniMovies :) This time it´sa lily, which I photographed over 8 hrs, every 20 seconds a picture. It took my several trys, as the rose didn´t open every morning at the same time. So I needed a few days to catch her in the right moment. Music and sounddesign by me :) Equipment used: Canon EOS 7D, Canon EF 70-200mm f/4 USM L IS, B+W MRC Polarizer, slim, Manfrotto MA 055 CXPRO3 tripod, Manfrotto 701 HDV videohead, Manfrotto 808 RC4 3way-head, JJC-TM-A remote switch/timer, Cam-Slider Shot at ISO 100, f8, 29.97 fps, superflat picture style, edited in Canopus Edius, graded in After Effects © 2010 The IE·DNlab Project
Finally I finished the 3rd part of my "Natural Wonders" miniMovies. This time its about the Grand Canyon, one of the most impressing canyons, I´ve ever seen. I had to spent a huge amount of time for grading each shot extensively as I shot (by accident) with lots of different settings from superflat to highly saturated. So lots of shots got their particular grading as well as a lot of masks which I had to use, to separate the skys from the ground. This footage showed me again, how bitchy 7D footage can be, if you don´t know exactly what you do. I did a lot of shots out of a helicopter, but as it is - when you´re beginner - you do a lot of things, you shouldn´t do and of course...I did :D I tried my best to stabilize some of them, the rest...puhh...I had to put into trash. (Next time I´ll remember that a helicopter has windows;) Anyway...I hope you like this tiny movie too and if so, feel free to put a "like" on it :) Equipment used: Canon EOS 7D, Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ38, B+W MRC Polarizer, slim, Tokina AF 11-16mm f/2.8 AT-X Pro DX, Kenko Polarizer, Sigma AF 24-70mm f/2.8 EX DG macro, Kenko Polarizer Digital Pro, Canon EF 70-200mm f/4 USM L IS, B+W MRC Polarizer, slim, ND Fader, Manfrotto MA 055 CXPRO3 tripod, Manfrotto 701 HDV videohead, Manfrotto 700RC2 videohead, Manfrotto 808 RC4 3way-head, JJC-TM-A remote switch/timer, Cam-Slider Shot at ISO 100, 1/50, f8-22, 23.976 fps, different picture styles, edited in Adobe Premiere, graded in After Effects with Colorista (no ...
This is the first part of my "Natural Wonders" sequel, a series of movies about the most beautiful places on our blue planet. I´ll begin with the Bryce Canyon in Utah, United States, which is doubtless one of those places, you have to "visit before you´ll die". Fortunately I visited Bryce very early in the morning, a few hours later, it began to get pretty cloudy and rainy and that´s the reason, why this movie is only 2 mins long. I hope, I was able to catch this scenary with all its beauty and its amazing wideness. Enjoy this and all upcoming movies. Equipment used: Canon EOS 7D, Tokina AF 11-16mm f/2.8 AT-X Pro DX, Kenko Polarizer, Sigma AF 24-70mm f/2.8 EX DG macro, Kenko Polarizer Digital Pro, Canon EF 70-200mm f/4 USM L IS, B+W MRC Polarizer, slim, ND Fader, Manfrotto MA 055 CXPRO3 tripod, Manfrotto 701 HDV videohead, Manfrotto 808 RC4 3way-head, Manfrotto 234 videohead, JJC-TM-A remote switch/timer, Cam-Slider Shot at ISO 100, 1/50, f2.8-13, 23.976 fps, flat picture style, edited in and graded in Adobe Lightroom and Premiere / After Effects © 2010 The IE·DNlab Project
"nihil est in intellectu quod non antea fuerit in sensu" is what Aristotle said, when he ment, that nothing is in mind, which hasn´t been in our senses before. This is what I felt, when I visited this hidden and inspiring place of Dieter and Lieselotte Mastall . It´s located in the very north of germany, where no one will expect a place like this...mystic, spherical, lovely, creative and full of art...a place like an enchanted forest. The place is called "Waldsteinskulpturenpark" which means something like "stonescultpured forest" and is built by Dieter and Lieselotte, together with their children in (and since) 1980. Joseph Beuys calls something like this a "social sculpture" and as "everybody is an artist", they built this park as a holistic artwork to bring people together, connecting them, irrespective of their nature, culture, language and skin color. In 2 hours I tried to catch every tiny detail, capturing the mood, the spirituality and this unbelievable peace...calming...moony. I´m very glad to have met Dieter and Lieselotte, who inspired me and who are able to give back hope, strength and power. Therefore I wanna say: Thank you! I dedicate this small movie to their son Sibo, who passed away in a very young age a few years ago. If you guys are in germany...visit this place and feel, what I felt! It´s worth it! ***********maiburg.de/*********** Equipment used: Canon EOS 7D, Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ38, B+W MRC Polarizer, slim, Tokina AF 11-16mm f/2.8 AT-X Pro DX ...
This is a short documentary about the Miss Barock Germany - 2010 competition in Celle. Well..with a big smile on my face, I put this video online, always remembering my tough luck this day. Armed with my brand new "100 KG" shoulderrig, my two backpacks and my camera on the left, my girlfriend and my client on the right, I stumbled to the audio engineer to get a well mixed sound onto my laptop. I tried to handle "1000nd"s of spectators, who where stumbling over my tripod everytime, bumping me from nearly every side. In one second I had a wonderful sun, 2 minutes later, I-dunno-how-many-gallons of rain. The "master of audio" did forget to give me the right sound to the right output, so sometimes I had just the voice, sometimes only the music and most of the time just everything. *LOL* I can proudly say, that from 3 hours of shooting, I had nearly 99% of the shots out of focus :D and a "Windows" audio recorder, which is only able to record 1 minute pieces...did YOU know that?????I didn´t. Under those - even for my client - unknown and unexpected circumstances, we all tried to make the best out of it. When we all thought about an at least 5m catwalk, we got surprised by just a few squaremeters... without catwalk by the way :D Not enough for the performances, not in any way enough for me. From minute to minute my rig was getting heavier and heavier and after one hour, I decided to shoot the rest of the shots freehand. The only circumstance that kept me alive, was the fact ...

Here´s the fourth part of my "Natural Wonders" sequel. We just had two days in the Yellowstone and it was unfortunately much to less, as we couldn´t see anything, the Yellowstone has to offer. The Yellowstone is the worlds very first Nationalpark and of course also one of the most beautiful. When I was a child, I saw a lot of documentaries and heard so much about the Yellowstone and I've sworn to myself, that one day, I will visit this park. I could talk so much about this wonderful piece on earth, but not only one word can describe such a natural wonder. Enjoy. This 10 minute long movie is a CGI/Real footage mixture, which I created with my team in Göppingen in 2010 and which won the intermedia-globe GOLD Award 2011 by World Media Festival. My client was ordered by EnBW (Energie Baden-Württemberg) to produce a movie which describes, where the drinking water comes from and how it arrives at its destination...our households. EnBW is one of germanys biggest areal providers for power, gas and thermal and supplies the Baden-Württemberg region around Stuttgart also with water. I was hired as Lead Artist and cinematographer and had a small team of 2 CG-Artists and one compositing artist. In a couple of days I shot the footage and interviews with a Canon EOS 5D MKII and my EOS 7D. In the meantime one CG Artist built the historic village Stuttgart. Later on, I did the rough cut and the animatic, before I animated the intro and the other CG parts, whereas the compositor graded up the real footage. We had lots of 3D models to build, as well as doing a huge research of the historic development of Stuttgart and its surroundings. Thanks to Hanna for her patience with me, during our shootings and her modeling stuff, a big thanks to Hannes, who built this wonderful tiny village. I think, even if the movie is in german language, you´ll understand, so just sneak a peak...we hope, you´ll like it :) credits: Madness GmbH (producer) Sonja Schlichter (project management) Thorsten Kuttig (Lead Artist/Cinematographer, modeling, animation, shading ...

If you didn´t see "[org{an]imal}.izm - The Movie" already, you should watch it here on my channel And if you watched it and were wondering, what I filmed there...here is the "demystifying making of" ;) While having a break, drinking a coffee and getting mad of working, my colleague Silvio took a glass of water and just threw a few of "them" into the glass, just to see, what happens. After a few days, "they" got bigger and bigger and morphed into strange shapes. Ritschi - another colleague - took his digital camera and made a photo of "them". A little bit color grading here and playing around with some effects there and we had some really nice looking images, which reminded me on some cool intro titles of the big blockbusters. This inspired me, to spend some weekends to make this organic, animalistic looking movie (that´s where the name is based on - organic animalizm) (Don´t worry, we didn´t throw animals in the water...but...kind of;) Before shooting the footage, I had to wait several days, to let "them" change their consistence and shape. The "making of" isn´t that super cool graded and cinematic looking feature-movie, but it shows, how simple you can turn your ideas into "something moving" and nice looking. I hope you guys like it, wish you all a happy new year and ask you for leaving the one or other comment and a "like"...if you like it :) The score is from one of my favourites: 28 Day Later Equipment used: .Canon EOS 7D, .Kodak Zi6 .Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ38, .B+W ...
The "Temple Of Sinawawa" is located in the Zion Nationalpark, a narrow gorge in Utah. We spent one day in this Nationalpark and drove the Zion Drive to its end, where the Temple is. Zion is really wonderful, but there are lots of people, hiking the different trails. As we wanted to see the sunrise, we stood up at 5, but unfortunately it was much too early from down below, as the hills covered all the area with shadow. (beginner's mistake :D) Here you also can see a very nice of my 360 degree panoramas of the "Temple of Sinawawa" 360cities.net/image/iednlab-zion-nationalpark#309.10,-33.10,77.5 Equipment used: .Canon EOS 7D, .Tokina AF 11-16mm f/2.8 AT-X Pro DX, .Kenko Polarizer, .Sigma AF 24-70mm f/2.8 EX DG macro, .Kenko Polarizer Digital Pro, .Canon EF 70-200mm f/4 USM L IS, .B+W MRC Polarizer, slim, .ND Fader, .Manfrotto MA 055 CXPRO3 tripod, .Manfrotto 701 HDV videohead, .Manfrotto 808 RC4 3way-head, .Manfrotto 234 videohead, .Cam-Slider, .JJC-TM-A remote switch/timer, .LowePro Shoulder Harness & Waistbelt, .LCD-VF Viewfinder Shot at ISO 100, 1/50, f5.6-8, 23.976 fps, flat picture style, edited in Canopus Edius, graded in After Effects. © 2011 The IE·DNlab Project
I´m proud to present something totally...different! This is "[org{an]imal}.izm"...weird, disgusting and quite obvious senseless...but...it isn´t :) This 45 seconds movie is based on an idea of my colleague Sivlio, who is motiondesigner and who sometimes has strange farts in his mind :D I don´t wanna tell you, what is going on there, as it might pretty interesting, what you guys will see in this movie. Later on I will disclose this "secret" in a 3rd and 4th movie with a totally untouched file, as well as a making of. (As some of my colleagues are knowing about this movie, I ask them imploringly to not tell it here!) I filmed everything with a 7D and the amazing Kodak Zi6, as well as the monstertube EF 70-200L plus 3 macrorings and my brandnew Sigma 17-50mm. The grading, sounddesign and lots of the sound effects are done by me, especially the disgusting one :D I graded and played a lot around in After Effects with Twitch and some custom made effects, to get kinda harmonic and not overloaded look, but well...just get yourself a picture of it.
