• Exclusive First Look: Kata 3N1-20 Sling for Photographers

Join me as I take an exclusive first look at the newest photography bag in the Kata Digital Photo Series, the 3N1-20. It is a sling bag that can convert from the single strap sling style pack to a traditional two-strap backpack for longer photo walks. I am a photographer who likes having my camera gear at the ready, but I don't always want to wear it around my neck. Having only had the 3N1 for 24 hours, I am already in LOVE with it. As you will see in the video, I can swing the bag from back to front and easily pull my camera and gear out of the bag without ever removing it from my back. When I am am finished snapping a photo, I can put my camera back into the pack and swing it back behind me and be on my way. In the bottom part of the pack, I carry my Canon 30D with battery grip and L-plate, Canon G9, Tamron AF 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 lens mounted, lens hood attached, Tamron AF 14mm rectilinear lens, Speedlight 580EX, Lensbaby 3G, polarizers, extra batteries, and other accessories. In the top part of the bag, I carry all of my personal items, wallet, keys, iPhone, sunglasses, water bottle, etc. I am not getting paid for this and don't mean to sound like an ad, but this is just the photo bag I have been waiting for. It's my new purse. The 3N1 begins shipping in July and will retail for somewhere around $90 - $125 USD, depending on where you purchase it. • Deuter Futura 42 AC Backpack Review (Part 1of2)

The Deuter Futura 42 gives a list of well-thought out features in a sturdy pack at a fraction of the cost of comparable packs from other companies. But don't think for a second that quality has been compromised by the low price. I've literally kicked my Futura around the UK (England,Wales), Southeast Asia (Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam), and up and down the east coast of Australia with nary a problem or any sign of damage. The Futura features: - Sturdy top-loading design with adjustable waist belt - Hydration compatible - AirComfort System to prevent "sweaty back syndrome" - 2550 cubic inches (42 liters) of space in the main compartment with a zip divider to separate it into upper and lower compartments - expandable side pockets on either side (for an extra 5 liters/300 cubic inches of storage) with compression straps - mesh pockets on either side with compression straps - 2 top flap pockets - front stash pocket - bottom outer pocket - bottom access to the lower half of the pack's main compartment - small zip pouch on the waist belt - integrated rain cover - Materials: Microrip Nylon & Polytex - weighs 3lbs. 14 oz. (1.75 kg.) - measures 28"x14"x10" (71 x 35.5 x 25.4 cm) - Fits torso lengths 17-21" (43-53 cm) - Retails for approx. US$140 However there were a few small details that I wish I could change - The air comfort system, while nice in summer, is superfluous in cooler months. The extra volume taken up by the system makes the pack a little too large to be taken as a ...

I've owned many photo bags over the years, and this one holds its own with the best of them. I will say the flipside functionality seemed a bit gimmicky when this pack is loaded up. Flipping it around your waist to access your gear causes the pack to invert itself, so you really need to stabilize the pack from a bent knee position to avoid spilling your gear everywhere. Maybe I didn't play around with this enough, but I think it's an area that could be improved in future versions by somehow stabilizing the waist strap.A list of my equipment carried in/on the pack:Internal:- Canon 600D DSLR with battery grip- Tokina Pro 12-24mm lens- Sigma 70-300 macro lens- Olympus E-PL1 M43 body- M Zuiko 14-42mm lens- Summilux Leica 25mm 1.4 lens- Sony compact tripod (the tripod storage will hold a full size tripod)- 77mm ND filter- 77mm circular polarizer- 58mm circular polarizer- 46 to 58mm step up ring- Pelican SD card holder- 2 extra Olympus batteries- Intervalometer- Microfiber cloth- 2L Camelbak- 5 or 6 energy bars- 2 almond butter packs- 2 beef jerky packs (1oz)External- 1L water bottle with caribiner- backup hiking boots(tied to side of pack)- Hand towel (secured by the trekking poles loop)I ...
